Waddington’s currently lists three sculptures attributed to Floyd Kuptana in their Inuit Art: Sculpture & Graphics auction, which closes on October 30.

The mask and the bear are clear attributions—both are signed and dated by Floyd. However, the Spirit sculpture, made from antler, seal fur, and stone, is more unusual.
It’s unsigned, undated, and while the face bears a slight resemblance to Floyd’s style, I am not sure. It could potentially be an early work, but also maybe by his brother Robert Kuptana?
I’ve reached out to Waddington’s for additional provenance details.

7.5 inches length X 7inches height, signed lightly by the artist; "Floyd Kuptana, Paulatuk NWT” Also appears to have the copyright circle and a date, possibly 20i7.
Carved in very soft and delicate stone, hence a few tiny scratches here and there which have been emphasized by the camera. These are scarcely visible with the naked eye and do not detract.

Floyd Kuptana was a Toronto based artist who worked in sculpture, painting and collage. His work often depicts themes of transformation in a playful and humorous manner.

The shaman is holding a Canadian Flag. It is kneeling, and has 2 heads, 2 noses, but 3 mouths(!), and just 2 eyes, but wide and open.

We see the teeth in 2 mouths, bone plugs, tattoo pins on the cheek, markings under one eye, and again an -for me- unknown type of pad or clothing on the back of the neck.

What sticks out is also a tattoo marking with three pins/dots with a red circle on one cheek.

The contrast between the friendly smiling face with the almost devoted folded hands holding the Canadian flag grows bigger wheh you see the 5th image.

What do you read in that??

This walrus keeps it´s head looking upwards, with big eyes and protruded lips and mouth. One cheek has markings/cuts plus a bone plug.

A second face (looking forward) sticks out of the walrus stomach, with an extended nose bridge, and again markings one one cheek.

The neck and tail have rings going around.
